Thoughts on the wildly varying pronounciations of names?

Can't tell if this bugs me or is genius. A lot of names get pronounced very differently depending on the character. I'm used to shows having consistent pronunciation of character names, places, etc like in Star Trek, Game of Thrones, etc. In the show, though, it's all over the place sometimes.

e.g.

  • Admiral Souther: Sowther / Suther (The character himself pronounced it "Suther" so I assume that is the correct pronunciation)
  • Klaes Ashford: Klaus / Klace
  • Marco Inaros: In-are-ohs / Inner-ohs

Does anyone know if that variation was intentional or just accidental? I could see it either way. If intentional, it does lend some realism since this is common IRL and may also help highlight the differences in dialects between the Earthers, Martians, and Belters.

The only instance that actually, flat-out bugged me was how the same lieutenant on the Agatha King pronounced the admiral's name as "Suther" in one episode and "Sowther" in another. This is despite working closely with the admiral himself and should know how to pronounce his name correctly.

Edit: It's also kind of genius how Avasarala mispronounces his name. She always talks and tells stories about him like they're long-time best friends but admits later they barely ever spoke and that he didn't really like her.
