  • Only the one at the 3-o-clock position is anarchism in the first place; exploiting other beings for what their bodies produce is not anarchy.

Rainforests pushed to breaking point by new demands for resources, report says

  • ...This is actually a really useful breakthrough. How do we implement her method?

  • Enough B12? No, there is no easy way to know. The symptoms of deficiency are many and very diverse and overlap with symptoms of other health problems, and the blood test for vitamin B12 is not a reliable indicator. The most reliable test is urinary methylmalonic acid. If you have a B12 deficiency, the body's ability to break down methylmalonic acid will be impaired, and the amount of that substance in your urine will be higher than normal.

‘It’s no longer exceptional’: Karachi struggles under brutal new reality of extreme heat

  • human deaths

  • I agree that some of these are not really a concern. I didn't write the list.

  • I'm not familiar with the development situation there, but that's unfortunate. Maybe some of our talented solarpunks could lend their programming skills to making HedgeDoc 2.x a reality?

  • HedgeDoc seems like more of a replacement for Etherpad, with Cryptpad being "overkill" in terms of features, but I'd also be interested to know if there are other options available...

  • Thanks for this response. I'm not involved with the telegram chat and have no contact with the people there; I heard about it from someone else online, and then I thought of your post and had this idea. Even if I were to get the Matrix equivalent up and running, someone else would need to contact the people on telegram to let them know about it.

  • I've heard of there being a "telegram" chat thing for the vegan communities in Ecuador, and I wonder if that could be moved to the Matrix space somehow. I'm not so familiar with how Matrix works, but if the vegan space could allow private or invite-only rooms, then it should work, right? I don't have any contact with the people using the telegram chat, but if anyone else does, maybe suggest that they make the switch?

  • I obviously do not support or condone the activities of the "poor, local artisan fishermen" mentioned in this documentary, nor do I support or condone the activities of governments, police, military, or "environmentalist" organisations claiming to protect the ocean.

  • With virtually no marine protected areas that didn't allow fishing, and global fish populations on the brink of collapse, I began to question whether sustainable seafood could even exist.

For people living in Japan, kombu grown along the coast of Hokkaido is probably as sustainable as it gets. For people elsewhere... grow your own?

  • Prevention. The fewer people coming through the hospital, the less waste generated.

If someone comes in with a problem that can be solved permanently (e.g. type 2 diabetes), solve it the first time so that they won't be back.

EDIT: Anyone on the hospital staff, nurse or receptionist or janitor, can share information that could help someone to avoid repeat hospital visits. Just give a disclaimer like "I'm not a doctor, so don't take this as medical advice, but..." and then tell the patient with diabetes or atherosclerosis about the benefits of a low-fat plant-based diet (and maybe give them a simple link like pcrm.org), or direct the biker with the fractured skull to a source of quality motorcycle helmets, or provide the addict who overdosed with the contact information of a local support group... We never really know how big a difference our actions can make.

  • Of course forests are not the only "natural" ecosystems, but many of the non-forest ecosystems in the world today only exist due to human intervention / deforestation.

  • How to get industrial agriculture to change their poisonous, profit-driven model?

We cannot change the system; we must operate outside of the system as much as possible and make it obsolete.

  • Yields begin to decline at temperatures above 30C for most agricultural crops, with damage including weakened cell walls and the production of toxins. The yields of maize in some areas have declined by about 10%. Wheat has fallen by nearly as much, and is projected to decline further as temperatures rise to more than 1.5C above preindustrial levels.

development of a more diverse food system, better equipped to withstand shocks, and a reversal of trends in intensive agriculture that have robbed farms of trees, shade and mixtures of crops

With each new article like this that gets published, it's ever more obvious that biodiverse food forests are the solution.
