  • Modern TV is a computer that runs apps with network access. The reason for this is streaming video over the Internet which is rather popular. If an app can send and receive data over the Internet it can be exploited to act as a residential proxy for a larger botnet. If that app doesn’t utilise native libraries / APIs to do that it might be hard to detect by the platform owner.

  • My code was scraped according to this website but let’s not kid ourselves that any kind of opt-out will prevent this. Any corpo knows that you can outsource all of your shady dealings to a couple of layers of third party vendors and pretend you didn’t know any better. It’s safe to assume that if you use an LLM that you didn’t train yourself you’re violating copyleft of some GPL project.

  • I pulled out a tube TV from the basement to see if it still works, ended up playing through Chrono Trigger on Mister FPGA. What a short and sweet game. Are there any modern AAA JRPGs that don’t overstay their welcome?

    I also finished my „play on train only” Final Fantasy VII Remake run on Switch 2. That took some time since I only do maybe 6 hours per week on trains. Kind of scared how many trips Rebirth will take.

    Up next: dunno, SMTV while travelling and Star Ocean on tube TV at home probably.

  • Mina the Hollower is a great fit for Lite that I’ve been enjoying lately (even if I suck at it). I also started playing Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance but quite early on there’s a place where the game stutters badly which is a stark reminder that I’ll have to get this Lite modchipped. A touch of overclock makes many games get good enough quite often.

    SUPER5 screens are no longer sold unfortunately. The guy who made them lost a lot of money on a version of this mod with HDMI output on top of numerous complaints from customers who botched their installs and damaged either screen or their Lites. He seems to be quite successful in selling his Mister FPGA clones too.

    Lite is a great companion handheld regardless of screen though! It might not have every indie game that Steam does but that Switch library is still very impressive.

  • It’s because consumers expect certain level of production values which is then amplified by the scale of FFVI story. By the time you invest in the required assets you want to maximise bang for your buck so each location needs more depth and that’s how you end up with something like FFVII Remake.

  • Why would you use XFS for those partitions in the first place? It’s not what it was designed for or used in real life and that’s likely reason this wasn’t discovered before. What I’m getting from a lot of those AI-assisted security findings is that they’re not concerned with a real vector of attack before making big claims in the media. You’ll probably be able to vandalise things with this exploit but „root privileges” is pushing it.

  • It was disclosed through user agreement and docs for admins hosting Tesseract. List wasn’t encrypted. We’re going in circles now.

    People are allowed to have political opinions and they’re allowed to express them through software. Don’t like it? Don’t use it.

    He was also not 'running' anything for most users, any more than Linus is 'running' my pc just because I'm using Linux.

    He is running an opinionated client to the underlying ActivityPub network. He states that in user agreement and docs for admins that want to host it on their own.

    Do I agree with a design philosophy intended to decrease polarisation? Heck yeah. The amount of downvotes I’ve got shows what kind of people this thing attracts. Reeks of reddit.

  • I agree that if you run a thing then you get to decide things about it. I agree that calls for for violence should be filtered from normies at all cost (I’m very pro guillotine but I think it’s best to have everyone get there on their own pace). I agree that homophobia/transphobia has no place in a civilised space. So, mostly everything that was stated there.

    I don’t use Tesseract but I did try it out back in the day and I remember that there was a button labeled „toxicity” in settings. I’m surprised by what it does from a technical perspective because I’d expect it to do filtering based on keywords. But user filters definitely work too, it’s just that you have to keep your ear to the ground which is a lot of effort. I modded a national subreddit back in the day and for certain type of users doing a pseudo-shadowban was the only way to do it.

    I can’t vouch for every person on the list being there for a valid reason. I scrolled it but didn’t recognise anyone. I stay out of crowded spaces though.
