  • I like all of them except 4 and 5. I was surprised by how much I liked Peace Walker and it gave me false hope 5 would be a return to form and we'd all remember 4 as the really bad one. Peace Walker's presentation and gameplay are sadly quite badly hampered by it being a PSP game.

    Also it features a sexualised loli-type character in a prominent role because that was all the rage in anime in 2010 I guess

  • But then smartphone gaming turned into a barren hellscape of ads and fremium mtx ridden slop. I don't know about you, but despite owning high end smartphones I have literally no games on my phone. Not to say that no good smartphone games exist...

    Just emulate real games from real systems with a phone controller of your choosing. I'm currently playing Valkyria Chronicles 3 with the English fan translation. If your phone's high end you could probably do Gamecube and PS2 which should be enough for anybody

  • It's crazy to me to think that people today give children personal devices with full internet access. When I was growing up people would've thought it would have been irresponsible to give children under ~14 unsupervised access to the internet on PCs in their own rooms

    I guess the internet has become so interwoven into our lives people have forgotten to treat it as something alien and like the hive of scum and villainy it really is. Thanks, tech bros

  • You might need to talk to grandma. Before Youtube kids would just watch/listen to the same VHS tapes/DVDs/cassettes/CDs over and over which had to have been infinitely healthier than an unrestricted slop hose aimed straight at their brain

  • It pisses me off to no end that they gutted the theater mode's functionalities in MCC. No saving clips or even entire films, it's just a temporary list of the last 10 games you played. How could you fuck this up so badly???

    I still have clips of matches from almost 20 years ago on my 360's hard drive. Apparently when MCC originally released on the Xbone they justified it by saying saving Theater clips was redundant because you could just record and share videos with the Xbone directly which is utter horseshit

    Bigass lossy video file versus tiny ingame demo file that captures the entire state of the game world with every object and player that you can view from any angle, wow! It's like I'm living in the future

  • The multiplayer and gameplay sandbox, definitely. Halo 3's story felt pretty rushed and unambitious compared to 2 (because it's just the intended back half of 2 extended into a full game)

  • The sentiment I more commonly saw among Halo fans was that Halo faded away because it lost its identity and started chasing trends, especially COD with its multiplayer.

    COD's modern warfare era showed up and just completely stole Halo's place as THE console FPS, then Bungie moved on and left Microsoft aimlessly flailing around for almost 15 years now

  • I was watching bits of it on Youtube and that weird scene where the prophet guy introduces every member of the Covenant was certainly something. I know they've been around since like the Halo 2 instruction manual but I can't help but cringe when they have characters say the Covenant species' "native" names out loud in dialogue. All of them are just something very on the nose in an Asian language that sounds exotic and alien to Westerners, like I think the Brutes' name just translates to "stupid monkey" in Korean. It's like if the Jackals were called los pollos locos or whatever
