  • Lengualytics is a really good tool for comprehensible input in any language. Basically it's a collection of comprehensible input videos found and submitted by other users, and ranked according to language, dialect and difficulty level.

  • I call it what it is. Socialization as a closeted trans person.

    Which is to say, it's a mixture of being socialised as our assigned genders, but it's also our own internal relationship and interaction with those norms and pressures. And that last part is very different between cis people and trans people.

    I'm not saying trans people escape the influence of being socialised according to our assigned genders. I'm saying the way we internalise and respond to those norms, perceptions and pressures differs sufficiently that it should be acknowledged and talked about, not erased and conflated with cis experiences.

    Absolutely not. But you also didn't have the same relationship with your upbringing as cis men and boys did, because you dealt with a lifetime of internalised transphobia that made you doubt who you are.

    We all absolutely share some similarities with the socialisation of our cis peers, good and bad, but we did not have the same experience as them, and I think that's an important distinction to make. "Male socialisation" erases those different experiences. But when you don't conflate the two experiences, you can start to talk about the difference, whilst also acknowledging the commonalities.

  • I used tesseract as my daily driver for lemmy, and honestly, it was and is the best lemmy interface I've used, at least in terms of the tools it had to make admin and moderation tasks easier.

    But we were also running an older version and hadn't upgraded to the version with the blocks, or otherwise, we'd have been in the same boat as db0, because we were one of the instances blocked by the list

  • Nipple pain is part of the hormonal cycle. It happens quickly in cis women and trans women! My nipples hurt within 24 hours of doing an injection, and I've been on HRT for near 10 years.

  • I'm a walking talking transmed ideal. Knew from the time I was a kid. Binary. Crippling dysphoria. I wanted bottom surgery from the moment I knew it existed and I've had nearly every transition related surgery possible.

    But I've got more in common with non binary folk, and trans folk who don't want surgeries, and don't struggle with dysphoria than I will ever have in common with a broader society that teaches us to hate ourselves. Gender diverse folk are my peers, and what we have in common is finding self love, self pride, and giving a middle finger to those who would try and take that away from us.

    You would benefit from finding some of that pride in finding and accepting who you are despite surviving in a world that tries to deny you that. The answer isn't to hate yourself more, and to push hatred on to your peers.

    The thing you will see with 4chan spaces and transmed spaces is that all of them carry shame for being trans. Some of them hate themselves openly and others don't openly hate themselves, but even in a perfect, accepting world, would still want to hide who they are. Both of those are just different degrees of the same thing though. And you weren't born with that internalised shame. You learned it by growing up surrounded by transphobia. Fight back by finding some love for yourself and who you are, instead of agreeing with the people that taught you self hate in the first place

    If you cross post your history to a more popular community like mtf, and begin or end your post with something like that, I guarantee you that you'll get more engagement. Once people know that you are open to hearing their stories and that they're not going to be "stealing the focus" by responding with their own stories, they'll be more confident in doing so :)

  • I think the issue is perhaps that it wasn't clear what sort of input you wanted from folk on your history.

    Speaking for myself, I read every word you wrote, but I only addressed the questions you asked at the end, because I wasn't sure what sort of engagement you were looking for in your history, and it was different enough from my own experience that just sharing my own more privileged story didn't feel right.

    If you said something like "Now, tell me your stories" or "Has anyone been through something similar?" it might be easier for folk to engage
