Well, the "deal" was the US gives $300 billion, Israel leaves Lebanon, and in return Iran will waive 14b in strait passage ransoms over two months.

So many ways it's idiotic. I have to assume Trump was expecting 10% of that 300b.

Yeah, eventually. If I'm going to live in a country indefinitely, I'm going to try to learn their language. If I'm in France for more than a year, I'm going to try to learn French. I'd expect the same of friends and family. It's not racist to expect people living in a place long term to be able to converse with the locals.

If they're working here for just a summer or two and spending most of the year in another country, no.

That's a good point. If he had made the appointment today and it got into the courts immediately, the judge could make a court order or a warrant to have someone trusted go check on him.

HIPAA generally blocks sharing medical data, but explicitly allows disclosure "to comply with a court order or court-ordered warrant, a subpoena or summons issued by a judicial officer".

The Senate has always been treated as an "office for the State at large".

I really don't get why so many supposed Dems are arguing to lose.

Is it better to win this argument than the country? What's your motivation here? If there's any doubt as to the meaning of these words and the historical precedent, they lean in my direction more than yours.

Beshear needs to take real action and let his opponents argue it in court. If he doesn't try, there's no argument.

And for some reason you're taking their side, even when it's weaker.

He can argue to use the dictionary definition of the word "vacant" when it strains credibility that McConnell has the capability to ever return to his seat. He can make the appointment now, before the deadline, and let Republicans try to argue against it.

It's not much of a stretch.

It's certainly less reaching than the other side who is pretending McConnell is alive.

Republicans bend laws well past their believability point in order to keep nazis in power.

Do nothing Dems refuse to take the word "vacant" at face, dictionary value in order to keep democracy intact while fully believing that the person "occupying" the seat has most likely passed.

You understand the farce and you're wringing your hands in intentional helplessness while we let them get away with it.

Yeah, I'm offended. I'm also furious that I know this narrative will change right after the deadline passes. Only then the consensus will be "why didn't Beshear do something?!?" while right now the consensus online is that he can't or shouldn't.

I guess it's just a difference of opinion.

You think the Republicans should fully get away with playing Weekend at McConnell's. You're satisfied with them effectively stealing another seat in government just like they did for the Supreme Court. Or with the Ohio redistricting map. Because you don't believe a seat is empty until the Republicans tell you it's empty.

I'm sure if situations were reversed, the Republicans would also be okay with standing silently by and doing nothing. They certainly wouldn't play the cards given to them out of an overabundance of decorum.

After all, the Republicans put out two proof of life images! Totally a normal and believable way to handle this. I'm sure everything's on the up and up.

Literal Nazis are taking over our government and seemingly everyone's okay with it. Some people online seem to believe they can be stopped with strongly worded letters.

In a week the "consensus" will shift to "why didn't Beshear do anything?" But it's too early to agree on that while he still can do something.

So anyone who doesn't go along with the GOP's stalling plan for a Senate seat is a "fash" now. Got it.

And during some years we shouldn't appoint a Supreme Court seat either. Makes sense to me.

McConnell is very obviously dead or dead adjacent. He'll never fill that seat again.
