  • We all regularly evolve our views, but if you're changing your views totally on a month-by-month basis then you might need to focus more on your basic principles. This is even more critical if your views are evolving so much on a daily basis.

  • Another chapter, another banger! What I found particularly interesting was the overview of the four major periods of the soviet economy up to that point. Describing how intellectuals at first sabotaged the development of the first Five Year Plan is something we can see across all socialist economies, and it's something we have to understand. We cannot simply kill them all off, we need their skills, but we can punish the sabateurs while winning over this substratum of the working classes gradually.

    Seeing the people as the dictators is something I think Marxists can usually grasp intellectually, but translating that to non-Marxists doesn't always land. Again, Anna Louise Strong does an extraordinary job of simplifying the concepts and using analogies and anecdotes to convey exactly how this works.

  • It's the XTEink X3, with Crosspoint! All button based, no backlight, but 3.7" screen so it disappears in your pocket! Not too expensive compared to other eReaders.

  • I have an older Kobo with KoReader installed, and I adore it, but it's too big to replace scrolling on my phone. I keep it on my nightstand now, and just bought the XTEink X3, threw Crosspoint on it, added the Atkinson Hyperlegible font and added some ebooks from Anna's Archive, Standard Ebooks, and Comrade's Library.

    The XTEink X3 has no backlight and is incredibly small, but it's also incredibly convenient. The UI is harder to work with as it's all button-based, though. It's also much cheaper than the Kobo.

    If you want one, and you are the type that prefers long reading sessions, Kobos can be great when bought secondhand! Otherwise I am loving the XTEink I got to help my reading.
